CNN —The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has postponed all matches scheduled in Israel over the next couple of weeks due to the ongoing conflict in the country, the European soccer governing body announced on Sunday. “In light of the current security situation in Israel, UEFA has decided to postpone all matches scheduled in Israel in the next couple of weeks with new dates to be confirmed in due course,” UEFA said in a statement. The matches affected include Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifier between Israel and Switzerland, as well as Israel’s Euro Under-21 championship matches against Estonia and Germany. A mini tournament, scheduled from October 10-17, involving Under-17 teams from Israel, Belgium, Gibraltar and Wales was postponed as well. Another Euro 2024 qualifying match between Israel and Kosovo, scheduled for October 15, may also be postponed, UEFA warned, adding they’ll wait a few more days to decide.

CNN —Following the harassment of WNBA star Brittney Griner at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Phoenix Mercury’s leadership plans to make adjustments to prioritize players’ travel safety, head coach Vanessa Nygaard said Sunday. When asked if Griner was approved to charter flights and why she wasn’t chartering on Saturday, Nygaard said the team was following league-established rules and guidelines. Griner’s longtime teammate and WNBA star Diana Taurasi said that the harassment occurred during the team’s first public appearance since Griner’s release. Describing the incident as “unnerving,” Taurasi said the players’ safety comes first. “We implore the league and the teams not to wait another day to change the rule regarding travel.”

CNN —Arcangelo won the 155th running of the Belmont Stakes in New York, a historic win that marked the first time a female horse trainer won the race. With Arcangelo’s Saturday victory, Jena Antonucci became the first female trainer in history to train a Belmont winner. Preakness Stakes winner National Treasure led for most of the race, before Arcangelo made a late push inside to capture the historic victory. Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano tallied his first victory at the Belmont. The odds for Arcangelo to win the race were 7-1 as of Saturday morning, according to the Belmont’s official website.
